I recently saw, on Amazon, of the first edition of Forbidden Family, which was PULLED for publication, via the publisher, a NEW REVIEW. That first edition will NEVER be published again and whatever copies are available, via Joan/Doris herself, are very limited. Perhaps she needs to ‘sell’ those copies in her house?! Is that why this reviewer placed it on this book? Or perhaps the ‘reviewer’ is a ‘new’ friend of Joan/Doris’s and didn’t know that that ‘edition’ is no longer viable or available? Or perhaps the two of them decided to place the review on that first edition because the other two editions have so many negative comments and discussion topics. No matter…the book is still garbage. So here is the ‘new review!

Before I read Forbidden Family, I knew nothing about adoption. Now I know a whole lot more. Its’ shocking to know what the adoptee has to go through to find their true identity. The laws definitely have to change in regards to releasing birth records. My birth records belong to me. Your birth records belong to you. The adoptee’s birth records belong to them!
Being an adopted child Ms. Sippel, you have led quite an emotional roller coaster life. How did you ever get through it?
Forbidden Family should be required reading for all single mothers and parents who are contemplating giving up their children for adoption as well as singles and parents thinking of adopting.
Doris, I pray your natural and adoptive families find peace and I wish you peace of mind. Best of luck to you and your two families. Good job!!
And my comment…

Whether someone knows nothing about adoption or knows a lot about adoption, this book will not help you. The author is totally against any adoption and has an ax to grind, so her books and her life story certainly would NOT be of value to anyone faced with any issue about adoption! Save your money!
It is obvious that this reviewer, DJB, is a new friend to Joan/Doris, and either misplaced their review on a pulled from publication edition and/or doesn’t know that there are two other editions, for, this edition was written in 2009 BEFORE the author changed her name to Doris Sippel (dead give-away here as to the relationship of author and reviewer)!
It is further obvious that this reviewer is caught up in the Joan/Doris web of rhetoric, lies, and propaganda about adoption reform for birth-certifications…none of which has anything to do with the family members that the author has maligned and misrepresents in her self-absorbed pity party because she was adopted! The author has no shame or sense of family honor!
The reviewer’s empty sentiments about the birth and adoptive families are condescending and inappropriate! If a reader believes every word, written or spoken by the author, than they are bigger fools than the author! This reviewer does NOT know the families or OUR side of the story.

End of my comment…
For the record…here’s the standing of this book at the posting of this post…a BIG SELLER…NOT
Amazon Best Sellers Rank: #12,566,070 in Books
NOW…for the complete record of Joan/Doris’s books, here’s a short synopsis…
This woman has no shame or sense of family honor!
The first book ‘Forbidden Family, A Half Orphan’s Account of Her Adoption, Reunion and Social Activism‘ was published in 2009 but then was pulled from publication by the publisher in May 2011, for libelous material within the book. She violated the contract because she stated it was ‘all true’ but in fact, once the publisher saw ‘documentation’ they wanted nothing more to do with Joan or the book. Then in 2015, she ‘self-published’, eliminating the ‘middle’ man/publisher, a ‘revised’ version calling it ‘Forbidden Family, an adoptee duped by adoption’. Then in 2016 Joan changed her name back to her birth name and rewrote and republished the SAME crap in another book; a Third edition! CALLED ‘Forbidden Family: An Adopted Woman’s Struggle for Identity’! Talk about conning people!
